What’s next?

December 28th, 2009

So you guys want to know what’s next after the Thunder Road Marathon, huh? Me too.
I’m still in recovery and taking it easy but I can’t wait to get back out there.
The first official thing on the calendar is our annual Mount Mitchell winter trip. It’s coming up in a couple of weeks, and I [...]

The stuff they don’t tell you

December 15th, 2009

Ok, I’m sure that’s not true – runners will talk about anything and everything.
But I’ll tell you the unexpected stuff I faced during the Thunder Road Marathon (and training for said marathon.)
First, the blood.
Yes, blood. Okay, not a lot of blood. But when I got back to the hotel room after the race and I [...]

I am a marathoner.

December 14th, 2009

How do I put this experience into words? Where do I even begin to describe this moment?
Jeff said I should title this blog post “I beat Superman.” Because I did, in fact, beat Superman at the Thunder Road Marathon on Saturday.

But I know it’s not about who I beat or who beat me. I was [...]

So, apparently I was supposed to hit some sort of “wall” …

December 13th, 2009

But I got this memo instead:

Thunder Road Marathon: Done. 4:29:37. No walk breaks. No bathroom breaks. No stopping – from the start line to the finish line.
More to come – but I just had to get this out there! And thanks to the folks in NoDa who knew how to have fun with this!

Relax. Enjoy.

December 10th, 2009

Dell is coming to work on my laptop today (new screen, keyboard, an network card) and Windows 7 is being installed and whatever else Jeff is doing with it …
So today I’m blogging on my iPhone. This post will be short.
I’m in official relax mode before the marathon on Saturday. I went Christmas shopping [...]

A new way to see Charlotte

December 7th, 2009

Via foot.
I can’t stop thinking about how much of it I will see during my marathon this weekend. And how amazingly close things start to seem when you travel on your own two legs.
So, if you know anything about Charlotte, do me a favor and take a good look at this map. Can you believe [...]

One week away …

December 4th, 2009

A week from now I will be picking up my race packet and settling into my hotel room for the evening before getting up before the crack of dawn to run 26.2 miles.
And believe it or not, I’m not nervous at all.
That’s not to say that won’t change. But as of right now, I feel [...]

Thank you.

November 26th, 2009

Today I am about to run 4 miles (I love tapering!) in my preparation to run 26.2 in a couple of weeks.
I will attempt to write 7,000 words in a last-ditch effort to write a novel for this year’s National Novel Writing Month. I made marathon training a higher priority this year than novel [...]
