Life is a gift. Use it or lose it …

January 3rd, 2010

So, I’m a little late on the the whole “look back/look ahead” post that comes at the end of the year, but I was too busy celebrating the holidays to take the time to sit down and think about it! So, better late than never, right?
Last year I wrote about some thoughts on 2008, and [...]

I am a marathoner.

December 14th, 2009

How do I put this experience into words? Where do I even begin to describe this moment?
Jeff said I should title this blog post “I beat Superman.” Because I did, in fact, beat Superman at the Thunder Road Marathon on Saturday.

But I know it’s not about who I beat or who beat me. I was [...]

So, apparently I was supposed to hit some sort of “wall” …

December 13th, 2009

But I got this memo instead:

Thunder Road Marathon: Done. 4:29:37. No walk breaks. No bathroom breaks. No stopping – from the start line to the finish line.
More to come – but I just had to get this out there! And thanks to the folks in NoDa who knew how to have fun with this!

You should hate running. Only then you can love it.

December 11th, 2009

Tomorrow, it will be time to put my money where my mouth is. All these months – of training and researching and talking about training and researching – will be tested … tomorrow.
The official preparation has been going on all week:
Wednesday, 2 pm:
Last run before race – 2 miles.
Wednesday, all day:
Started making an even bigger effort [...]

Running 20 miles does not make one a party animal

November 24th, 2009

So, it’s Tuesday, and I ran 20 miles on Saturday. Why am I just now writing about it? Because I’m just now recovered!
Ok, that’s not really true. I’ve been busy with work and an out-of-town friend visiting also, but I have been on a total runner’s high since that run and I am so stoked [...]

Writing designing running hiking traveling – let’s just all move to New York City!

November 18th, 2009

Time to update my bucket list.
I wrote this a little more than a year ago. Here’s what the list was then, and how it’s going (items in green are in-progress or done!):
1. Write a novel.
How it’s going: I have written the first draft of a novel. And I am working on the first draft of [...]

Bring it on, November

November 13th, 2009

Today is the 13th, which means November is almost over. I’ve got 2 more long Saturday runs before tapering starts before my marathon (tapering is running lesser distances to give my muscles a chance to recover before The Big Day.) Tomorrow I run 15 miles, next Saturday 20 miles (gulp!), then 12 miles the following [...]

Now here’s some energy

October 15th, 2009

Busy working today, but had to share this awesome running music I found after seeing it mentioned on a Daily Mile thread.
I like it because:
= it’s fast and will get me moving
= I recognize the songs (meaning I won’t tune out)
You can pay whatever you want for the  music. I paid $5, and it got [...]

Marathon: It’s official

July 29th, 2009

I just signed up for Thunder Road! I can’t back out now!
Like Justin said, now the fun begins …
