Going to the gym on the day of their divorce

In those final days before the end
she stopped picking apart his every move
saw their time together for what it was
this man that she had loved and known

But today it is time to choose
divorce or devotion, love or lose
They pack their gym bags and head out

Exercise side by side on matching bikes
30 minute limit and someone is waiting
“I’m getting divorced today” she snaps
through sweat and salt and gasping breath

And in days to come the sadness will too
thoughts of broken vows and broken dreams
chase or be chased and this game is long
but she will lace up her running shoes
hit the trails and start anew.
