You can be fat and lazy as long as your friends are not

You know someone really gets you when all you have to do is send this text:

“I’m fat and lazy.”

That was my appeal for help to Scott on Monday. I’ve been so busy with various work projects that I haven’t had time to work out. Which I realize is absolutely an excuse. No matter how busy I am, I can and should make time for 30-60 minutes for my health. It needs to be a priority. But the past week or so, it hasn’t been. In fact, I only ran one time last week, for 5 miles.

And the irony of the whole thing is a workout can be a great way to recharge on the work front, too. I often get some of my favorite ideas while brainstorming during a run.

But alas, I hadn’t done it. And Scott gets it. Not because he ever even goes a day without working out (he literally exercises more than anyone I know) but he knew exactly what I was saying to him with that text.

Less than 24 hours later, we were at Six Mile Creek enjoying each other’s company during a 5-mile run. In fact, I almost punked out at 4 miles but he went ahead, which motivated me to chase after him in the dark to let him know I’d decided to go for one more mile, after all.

That’s when you know someone really gets you. When I need to run and he simply tells me where and when he’ll be joining me. When I want to run less and he sticks to our original goal, which is absolutely the best way to motivate me.

And today? I feel skinny and strong. I’m not fat and lazy; I’m a runner. No, one run didn’t create that. But one run after a string of off days? Sometimes that’s all it takes.

Doctor’s orders

So, I went to see an ortho doctor this morning about my foot injury. And sure enough, there’s a small fracture on my third metatarsal bone. The good news is, the X-rays from a week ago show that new bone has already started to form, and the X-rays from today show an even bigger healing. [...]

Back on the couch

Finally, I was starting to feel “normal” again for the first time since February. Normal in the sense of getting myself back on track with the workouts, that is. After I decided to put on a show at The Diamond restaurant and then spend 3 lovely days at the five-star resort otherwise known as Carolinas [...]

Getting my strength back

So, I’ve been working out like the old days again. And I have to say, it feels fantastic. The past couple of weeks I’ve been hitting the gym every day, going hard core on the stairclimber and even running on the treadmill. And yesterday I ran 3 miles in the 103 degree heat! I had [...]

Two steps forward, one step back

So, yesterday I had a big day planned. Was going to go to the gym for the second time since my fainting incident. But  I didn’t make it as planned. In fact, I didn’t do anything as planned. Woke up with my face swollen around where my stitches had been and feeling miserable. I called [...]

What do you love about yourself?

Note: I’m writing the 30 Days of Truth topics, not necessarily in the next 30 days, but in at some point, eventually, I will get all 30 days done. Write with me! On your blog if you have one, in the comments here if you don’t or if you don’t want to put it on [...]

Healthy eating kickstart

So, I’m on a diet. Not a “real” diet. I say that because it only lasts 3 days. I heard about it on the Today Show and I thought it’d be a great start to this healthy eating concept I’d like to follow. So, I suckered Anil into doing it with me, and I realized [...]

Meet my newest live-in houseguest

Not even two weeks in, and I’m already in love with P90x. Sounds cheesy, but I feel like Tony Horton shows up once a day to kick my ass for an hour or two, and he’s the cheapest personal trainer I’ve ever had. I was warned that he was annoying, and he is slightly, but [...]

I haven’t done this since high school …

So, I took the fitness test for P90x on Saturday. It was kinda funny thinking back to high school days – and doing some of these same things for fitness tests for P.E. class. I will say this test was a little harder than I anticipated – which I am happy about! If it had [...]
