Keeping healthy, loved, warm and cool

Some of my favorite things from last week:
Breakfast with Joy Bauer:

The purple color looks scary, but the shake actually tastes really good!

From her 3-day detox diet (which is awesome, by the way! I lost 7 lbs. I loved it so much I ran out the day after and bought her “Your Inner Skinny” book.)

This shake is 3/4 cup almond milk, 1/2 banana, 1 scoop of Hammer Soy Protein powder, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup raspberries, and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon.

Time with some of my girls:

Love these girls!

Had the nieces over for the weekend last weekend and we had a blast! Mia and Sadie are adorable. Mia is just like I was as a child, and Sadie is just like Jenny. Looks like her and everything. In fact, sometimes when I see Sadie I forget that I’m not the 5-year-old sister looking at her. I can’t wait till Cai and Caleb and Chloe are old enough to join in our movie / ice cream sundae / slumber party weekends!

Dog love:

Kishin loves Breanna

This is a horrible picture, and I had to lighten it a ton just to get Kishin’s features to show, but as I was working last week I looked up and this is what I saw. I love how Kishin is only happy when he’s near me or Breanna. He will follow her to the end of the earth. They make working so much better!

Coffee!

Cafe au lait

After 3 days on the detox diet and only being allowed 3 cups of black coffee during that time, I was excited to meet Sara for coffee at Caribou on East on Saturday. While I waited for her I snapped this picture, thinking about what a great gift Amy got me when she picked out that coffee sleeve. It has seen a lot of cups of coffee! It may be one of my most-used gifts. Love it!

Shopping love:

kick-ass fan

Ok, this photo was actually taken a few weeks ago. But this weekend I stopped by Metro where they had lots of fun lighting fixtures. This fan is one Anil and I picked out for his living room, and Metro had a similar one (different brand.) I think it’s one of the coolest fans I’ve ever seen!

All it took was puppy-dog eyes and a big hug

Ten years ago yesterday, a little beagle-mix mutt was born. Well, maybe. I don’t actually know her real birthday, but it was 8 weeks from that day that I decided to adopt her, so January 6 was the birthday I gave her. Ten years ago I was sharing a 2-bedroom apartment with Shannon. Both of [...]

2011: less running, more writing

The obligatory 2010 post: I’m not going to go into a huge play-by-play of the year. You have the archives for that! But I will say I started out the year at Wade’s house, drinking his home brewed beer (yum!) and hanging out in the hot tub. I imagine I may finish the year the same way … [...]

Sadie, the 2-year-old bottomless pit

As an oldest child, I can say that it’s not that we didn’t want our younger siblings to have good toys. It’s that we didn’t want them to have better toys than us. Same with good grades, fun birthday parties and desserts. I see myself in my oldest niece, Mia. When her 2-year-old sister Sadie [...]

And in the night, there was a scream

I woke up last night to an intruder. Or at least, that’s what I thought I was waking up to. I’m visiting Chris in Athens, and I woke up to him screaming. I sat straight up and went instantly into fight mode. I think my arms were even in punch position. My heart was pounding. [...]

Puppies are not trash.

This news story makes me so sad. Five puppies were found in a dumpster outside of Hickory, N.C. Outside of a PetCo, at that. If you’re going to abandon puppies, why not put them at the front door of the PetCo at least? I know I’m preaching to the choir here – no one who [...]

Puking puppies, good referrals, happy home

Warning: This post contains mention of puppy puke. I don’t think it will bother you to read it, even if you have a weak stomach, but you have been warned! So, as I have mentioned before, my dogs are inside dogs but they have not been for very long. Everything is going great with them [...]

Dogs still inside, WWIII has not happened.

So, a week and a half later and the dogs are still inside and still alive, so all is well on this front … There have been very few issues, actually. One little bathroom mishap the first time I let the dogs in my home office, but I made sure to spray all kinds of [...]

Dogs in the house Day 1

Anyone who knows Jeff probably thinks this is either April Fool’s Day or I’ve just completely revolted against his no-dogs-in-the-house policy. Neither of these are true. Seven years ago, when Jeff and I moved in together, we compromised regarding the dogs: I could have them, but they had to live outside. I agreed, as Breanna [...]

Am I the only one that likes rainy days?

Every time the forecast calls for rain I hear a collective moan among seemingly everyone but me. I absolutely love rainy days during the summer months. Rain in the winter pretty much sucks, I’ll give you that, but today I look out Chris‘ windows (I opened them, of course, as the rain cools everything off [...]
