I am so glad your brother is okay!

If the phone rings after 10pm, I think someone is dead. I don’t worry about things just in general, but, yes, if I don’t hear from regular friends in a while, or get those calls on a week night, I do think the worse. I don’t think it takes years off my life. It’s not something I do daily. I think it protects me from shock!

@Melissa — i heard some god-awful things on the police scanner at the paper where I worked for years. One time a professor emeritus at the college had a heart attack while driving through town and crashed through some structure over at the college. Drug chases, gang violence, schools on lockdown, escaped convicts. I cringed every time and am often very glad that I am no longer subjected to that daily!

I don’t quite know what to say except:

Live life to the fullest by doing what makes YOU happy

and

Don’t dwell on things that aren’t important and things that you cannot change

I am certainly trying to live by those two things even more after Monday.

Glad Kevin’s okay, but on the larger thread about worrying… I was the same way you were, except with 24 hour news channels. Working for who I work for, I can’t help but know everything that’s going on all the time, and it dominated my life and my mind to the point I was obsessed with making sure everyone in my life was okay ALL THE TIME.

I’ve since learned to quit worrying. The happiness quotient is MUCH higher. The simple fact is, shit’s gonna happen when it happens, regardless of how miserable you make yourself about the possibility. Might as well enjoy the stillness when it’s here instead of regretting that you didn’t when you had the chance.
