My poor mom has reached the heave-a-sigh-and-roll-her-eyes-then-move-on method of reacting to everything from my purple hair and piercings to my brother's singularly hideous tattoos. I don't think anything would shock her at this point.

I'm so amused by this!! My parents will not of course have the "Oh that's cute!" reaction... I guarantee it.

I didn't mention any of my other family's reaction to my 1st tattoo (since my cousin who's like my baby sister is the only other family member who knows about the 2nd one).

My grandmother saw it recently and made a comment like, "What is that on your back? Is that a cross or something?" And taking advantage of her senility I said, "What?! What's on my back??" spinning around trying to see it myself. Her response was, "Huh? You have something on your back?" Gotta love the "goldfish syndrome"; she had completely forgotten she'd seen anything at all.

On another occasion, my aunts from my dad's side of the family ganged up on me and all forced me to show them. We hid out in one of the back bedrooms at the house and all had show and tell with all of the cousins' tattoos. My Nonnie (my dad's mom) doesn't know, and she probably wouldn't care... but I'm the "good" granddaughter because I've never done any of that craziness as far as she knows! ;-)

My Great-Aunt Jean, the one I mention in my blog, keeps begging my mom and I to come visit her out in Davis, California. I'm dreading that trip as I've stopped trying to actively hide my tattoos because, frankly, it's just too hard, too tiring, and I don't think they're all that scandalous. She'll just have a cow. She was once Miss West Texas, and the only reason she didn't win Miss America is because my Great-Uncle Willard told her that he wasn't going to ask her to marry him again.... (I think she'd been putting him off for some time). Tattoos just aren't her thing.
