You will merely be a distant memory during a bleak time
a mistake of the heart, a trick of the mind
someone whose job was to tempt fate and twist me
around and around until my soul fell down.

In 5 years or more I will not remember the pain
the heart knows how to build walls
to protect from these sorts of things
I trust my heart to carry me away
in 5 years or more.

Broken spirits rest like old porcelain
shattered on the bedroom floor
Someone didn’t sweep up all the pieces
seems harmless but edges will cut you
if you don’t handle with care.

I will not hang onto you
just have to make it through
5 years or more.
